Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward LeBron James delivers a blunt assessment on the gap between L.A. and the Thunder after Monday’s loss.
Los Angeles Lakers superstar forward LeBron James explained bluntly why his team is not a championship contender — especially when compared to the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
After Monday’s loss to OKC, James didn’t hold back.
“You want me to compare us to them? That’s a championship team right there. We’re not,” James said. “We can’t sustain energy and effort for 48 minutes, and they can. That’s why they won a championship.”
The Lakers fell to the Thunder on Monday night, 119-110. Los Angeles had a great chance to come away with the victory without their best player, Luka Doncic. However, as James alluded to, they were unable to match the energy throughout the 48-minute contest.
This isn’t the first time the 41-year-old superstar has voiced his frustration with the team, and Monday was no different. When asked about what the difference was between the two teams down the stretch, James made it clear.
“Made shots. Also, we had some really good looks in the fourth quarter. Just weren’t able to come through. They were able to make some, get to the 50-50 balls, and get some extra possessions. But sometimes it’s just ‘make or miss’ and they more than we did in the fourth,” James said.
The Lakers are far from a title-contending team this season, especially compared to the Thunder. On the defensive end specifically, the Lakers are middle of the pack, ranking 17th in opponent points per game, 15th in opponents’ fastbreaks per game, 24th in opponent assists per game, and 27th in opponent effective field goal percentage.
The Lakers will be back on the court Tuesday as they get set to host the second-best team in the West, the San Antonio Spurs.
