Official: Barcelona confirm academy winger out for three months with injury; no surgery

Just when he was hitting peak form and getting ready to knock on the first-team doors at FC Barcelona, young winger Dani Rodriguez has suffered a serious injury.

Confirming the blow, FC Barcelona issued a statement earlier today in which they ruled out surgery for the 20-year-old attacker, while confirming that he will be out for three months.

“Barça Atletic player Dani Rodriguez has a partial rupture of the quadriceps tendon in his right leg. He will undergo conservative treatment, and the expected recovery time is around three months,” the statement read.

Rodriguez made his first-team debut for Barcelona in May last year in a La Liga game against Real Valladolid. However, in the same game, the La Masia talent suffered a dislocated shoulder, for which he had to undergo surgery.

It meant the youngster missed the pre-season with the first team and even missed the start of the new season. Upon recovering, he returned to the reserve team setup and became a key player for Juliano Belletti’s side.

A loan move in January was discussed, but Barcelona shut it down as they saw him as a player with a bright future and wanted him to develop within the club.

This past weekend, though, during the game against UD Barbastro, disaster struck again for Rodriguez, who was stretchered off after suffering the injury.

Now, it has been confirmed that he will be out of action for at least three months.

Get well soon, Dani!
