It's time to vote for the Halifax Health Volusia-Flagler Boys Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 2-7.
Last week, University wrestler Aiden Kavades captured the honors, claiming 71% of the votes. Kavades posted a 5-0 record, placing first at 150 pounds during the Stanton Invitational.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal gathers nominees for upcoming polls from across the area via email at [email protected]. Please send a player's name, school and notable statistics for a given week. Submissions are due no later than 8 a.m. every Monday.
To round out the ballot, our staff also picks athletes from scores and stats posted online or submitted by local coaches. Athletes for all in-season sports are eligible.
Voting in the online poll below will close at 10 a.m. Friday. Votes are restricted to once per device per hour. Emailed votes will not count.
Basketball
Jeremiah Outler, Seabreeze: The junior led the Sandcrabs with 26 points, eight rebounds and eight blocks during a 70-69 triple-overtime win over Jones in the District 7-5A semifinals.
Soccer
Lewis Brook, New Smyrna Beach: The senior scored a goal in the 95th minute, breaking a tie and helping the Barracudas avoid penalty kicks in a 3-2 victory over Cypress Creek in the Region 2-5A quarterfinals.
Wrestling
Malichai Braggs, Pine Ridge: Braggs won both of his matches by fall at the Five Star Conference Championship, grabbing first place at 126 pounds.
Jacob Hald, Flagler Palm Coast: The freshman’s 3-0 record during the Five Star Conference Championship slotted him first among 106-pounders as the Bulldogs ran away with the team title.
