State has a chance to peak at the perfect time
Only one game Monday night but it’s a good one as NC State visits Louisville.
State is on a six-game win streak, something it hasn’t done since David Thompson wore fire truck red in the 1970’s. If you don’t know about Thompson, know this: he was the player Michael Jordan aspired to be.
State is the more fierce of the two teams lately and that counts for a lot, but Louisville has a major size advantage.
Mikel Brown is back, but he hasn’t been the same since his back started giving him problems: in the four games since he got back, Brown has shot 63.3%, 7.7%, 50%, 14.3% and 20%. This from a projected lottery pick. It just sort of shows you how fine the edge is for high-level athletes. He’ll be fine eventually, but right now? He’s struggling.
State is more organized right now. It’s a smallish team but athletic and mobile. A lot may ride on how well Ven-Allen Lubin does. And in his last three games, Quadir Copeland has 36 assists and 5 turnovers, which is unbelievable.
There are a lot of factors to State’s recent success, but Copeland and Lubin have been really good during that streak.
The Pack gets UNC at home next Tuesday and for the first time in forever, that’s a must-watch game.
Speaking of UNC, following Saturday’s court storming, the ACC fined Carolina $50,000 as required. As you no doubt recall, Duke’s Jon Scheyer said that member of his staff got punched in the face. None of that would happen in Durham, of course. Why?
Because it’s been a long time since Duke stormed the court after a victory over UNC.
