Rodri is now in Real Madrid's sights

Although by trade Rodri and Mac Allister play in different areas of the midfield, the latter of the two has proven on more than one occasion that he can play as a defensive midfielder.

When he was first sign by Liverpool, the World Cup winner was forced to play as a number six, and, although he wasn't as effective as he was for Brighton, he still put on a good show.

Since then, he's come on leaps and bounds at Liverpool which is why it's not a surprise to see Real Madrid being linked with a move for the Argentinian.

However, in a new report from TEAMtalk, it seems like Manchester City's Rodri is one of the top names on their transfer shortlist.

The report outlines that Los Blancos are now ready to make a 'serious move' for the Spaniard with Real's hierarchy now 'concerned' about the lack of leadership among their ranks.

Rodri is seen as the 'ideal' candidate for Alvaro Arbeloa and, since he only has 18 months left on his current deal with the Cityzens, a move could well be on the cards.

The former Atletico Madrid star is now 'seriously considering' a return to his home country with Real the ones first in line for his transfer.

Liverpool wouldn't have to worry about Alexis Mac Allister if Real Madrid sign Rodri

Although this specific report doesn't mention Real's interest in Mac Allister, their focus on the midfielder has been well-documented over the last couple of years.

The Argentinian is still just 27 years old which means that he's likely to have a fair few years left at the top level.

Mac Allister is seen as one of the best midfielders in the world with his importance to Liverpool made more than clear.

Nobody involved with the Anfield outfit would want to see him leave Anfield as he'd be almost impossible to replace.

So, if Rodri does end up making the move to the Bernabeu, it could turn Real's focus away from Mac Allister and allow Liverpool to secure his future with the club, which, at the end of the day, is all that the Reds' fans will want.
