Midfielder is COMING back to Liverpool and it's going to be special

It's looking very likely that Liverpool are going to enter the market for a midfielder in the summer.

The fate of Curtis Jones hangs in the balance. Alexis Mac Allister is attracting interest from Real Madrid. And Liverpool are already short of depth in the midfield department.

Fans have been dreaming about Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton on social media. They are two players who offer what Liverpool are lacking right now.

Anderson and Wharton are pace-setters, who control and dictate the rhythm of the game. They make things happen on the pitch and they give their teams more security in possession.

Right now, Liverpool don't quite have a profile like that.

Arne Slot has Ryan Gravenberch who is very good at reading the game and then bringing the ball out from the back with his runs. There's Dominik Szoboszlai who can play that role but he's needed further forward for his ability to counter-press.

But what if there is a better solution than Wharton or Anderson?

For those two Liverpool are going to have pay a premium. Given there is going to be so much focus on strengthening other parts of the pitch, including at centre-back, right-back and in attack, Liverpool may not have enough of a budget to afford the demands for Wharton or Anderson.

Unfortunately, the club has always operated in this way and therefore they may seek to pursue a better alternative option.

Someone who makes more sense financially for them, and who is equally as special.

This is why with every passing week, with every performance that exceeds expectations Tyler Morton just looks destined to return to Liverpool.

He is very much of the mould of Wharton and Anderson. Morton learned his trade from Thiago Alcantara at Liverpool and he was lauded as a huge prospect by Jurgen Klopp, who was not afraid to start him at the San Siro in the Champions League.

When he left Liverpool last summer, it seemed like that chapter might have closed.

But instead Morton has gone onto establish himself as one of the best young midfielders in Europe's top five leagues. His ability on the ball and his reading of the game would make him an excellent option for Liverpool.

Importantly, the club has also lost a lot of homegrown talent recently. They could lose more in the upcoming summer window if Joe Gomez were to depart, or Curtis Jones as well.

Both are a possibility, which would increase the need for Liverpool to bring in a homegrown player, especially a club-trained one like Morton.

Liverpool did not insert a buy-back clause in Morton's contract. That's because Ligue 1 doesn't allow it. However, as per The Athletic, Liverpool have a 20% sell-on clause from Morton's future sale. This is on top of the 5% they already get from him being an academy player.

So, they can sign him for an absolute bargain if they wish to do that in the summer.

For the finances, and because of Liverpool's needs, it just now feels inevitable that Morton is coming back to Anfield, and it's going to be special to see him in a red shirt again.

His technical elegance makes him a really exciting player to watch.
