Tigers Topics: What statue should be next in Comerica Park?

The statues on the concourse are pretty iconic in Comerica Park. Who should be next?

The passing of Detroit Tigers great and legend of ‘68, Mickey Lolich, brought this question to mind. Comerica Park already has a pretty cool group of statues beyond the left center field wall on the concourse. Ty Cobb, Charlie Gehringer, Hank Greenberg, Willie Horton, Al Kaline, and Hal Newhouser are already represented in stainless steel form. Ernie Harwell rightly has his own spot as one of the transcendent figures in baseball broadcasting history.

Miguel Cabrera has a tribute to his Triple Crown season already. Someday a full size statue of the big fella may grace the concourse as well. It’s not hard to picture an Alan Trammell-Lou Whitaker statue of the dynamic duo turning a double play. A statue of Carlos Guillen pimping his homer off of Jered Weaver would amuse me, but is admittedly unnecessary.

Who would you like to see represented out there? Cabrera? Trammell and Whitaker? Lolich jumping into Bill Freehan’s arms? Let’s hear your best ideas. Justin Verlander will have to wait until he someday retires. Cabrera makes more sense after he’s inducted into the Hall of Fame. But there are plenty of options.
