West Ham United are interested in Sheffield Wednesday star Pierce Charles, according to The Star.

The Championship club is going through difficulties, and the Hammers want to seize the opportunity to pounce on Charles.

Highly rated by many, former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl described him as a player with ‘a lot of potential’.

“Sheffield Wednesday’s resolve to keep Charles may be tested, with West Ham believed to be very keen on the youngster.”

The 20-year-old goalkeeper broke into the first team last term.

While the Northern Ireland international did not keep a clean sheet in his eight league appearances, he prevented 2.14 goals and earned rave reviews for his showings.

Charles has also grown into a force between the sticks, and Sheffield Wednesday want to keep him amid interest from West Ham.

Rangers are also in the race to secure his signature, with former Owls goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo now with the Gers.

However, he is currently the most senior goalkeeper at Sheffield Wednesday, and they are rightly reluctant to let him leave. They believe his value will rise in the coming years.

West Ham are in the market for a goalkeeper after letting Lukasz Fabianski leave.

The Hammers could also sell Alphonse Areola if they receive a suitable offer for the France international.

Areola endured a horrendous 2024/25 campaign, and hopes of improvement dissipated after another poor showing against Manchester United in their pre-season clash.

However, West Ham should be pushing for a more experienced player to join the ranks. They need someone capable of taking the reins between the sticks now (View).

West Ham must try to get a deal for Mads Hermansen over the line. He is reportedly the number one target for the Irons this summer, per multiple reports.

If West Ham can snap Hermansen up to plug the gap before returning for Charles, then it would make sense for the Premier League side.

Charles is a fantastic prospect and can play back-up to Hermansen if the club can find a way to sell the increasingly erratic Areola.
