It’s that time in the season when Manchester City take the trip along the M62 for their annual defeat to Liverpool. The Blues are nine points behind Arsenal at the top of the table and need the points to keep their fading title hopes alive.

Whilst not mathematically out of the title race, defending champions Liverpool are 17 points behind the Gunners, so it could be worse. They suffered a slump in the autumn in the same style of City last season, but they have now started to recover, but face a fight if they want to secure a Champions League spot for next season.

As always, our team are on hand to give us their views and opinions on Sunday’s match. Here’s what we think this week and remember, this is the weekend where we pick up a bonus point if we win at Anfield regardless of prediction!

Saul

What a massive match! The Sunday game will be crucial for the title hopes and I think City get it done. 2-1.

Liverpool 1-2 City

Will

City have been inconsistent at best since 2026 began and Liverpool will be their toughest task yet.

I can’t see a win but I certainly can’t back City to lose.

Liverpool 2-2 City

Thomas

In what way will VAR inexplicably screw City at Anfield? Time will only tell.

Scousers 2-1 City

Pete

A dodgy VAR decision, penalty to Liverpool and a defeat for City. Isn’t that the way this fixture normally goes? I can’t remember the last time we went to Anfield and didn’t concede a penalty. Maybe that’ll happen today…Anyway, I never put City down to lose, but this fixture never seems anything but a defeat.

Liverpool 3-1 City

What happened against Newcastle

The Blues made it to the Carabao (is it still sponsored by them) Cup Final with a 5-1 aggregate win over Newcastle, 3-1 on the night, and now face Arsenal at Wembley next month.

Saul picks up extra point for the correct goal difference and Thomas gets two for the right number of goals scored. Pete and will both went for wins but underestimated the Blues a little.

Here’s the table:
