PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) – Morton boys hoops took sole control of first place in the Mid-Illini Saturday with a 67-54 win over East Peoria in front of a sold-out crowd at the PotterDome.

The Potters were led by Alex McKie who put up 26 along with Collin Burns chipping in 15 and hauling in several offensive rebounds.

We’re coming together so well right now. And I mean, they’re a great team, obviously, but we’re playing so well team ball right now. Well, we know we got we got a hard schedule still the rest of the season and in postseason. So we’ve got to get right back at it next week.

And this is a regional championship atmosphere preview. So for us to have this atmosphere here in the Potter Dome, knowing that in two, three weeks, whatever it is, it’s going to be a packed house and hopefully we’re part of.

Morton takes a one-game lead with just two conference games remaining in the regular season. The game was also the presentation of the GameBall Run fundraiser where nearly $220,000 was donated to the OSF Children’s Hospital.

In other conference action, Dunlap, Pekin and Metamora all picked up wins.

Washington girls hoops lost just their second game of the season against Nashville. The game featured the No. 1-ranked in 3A Panthers against the defending 2A state champs.

Nashville used a late surge to defeat Washington 57-51. The Morton girls beat Dunlap at home, fighting off an upset bit from a young Eagles squad.

At a girls wrestling regional tournament, the Washington Panthers brought home a third-place finish, the top performance from a Central Illinois school in the field.

Washington boys swimming took home the Mid-Illini conference championship after dominating the meet at Pekin.

Morton competitive cheer finished top ten in the state finals in 1A. It is their best-ever finish in school history.
