Round two goes to Darien.

Izzy Haire and Adriana Gromelski scored second-period goals to lead the Darien girls ice hockey team to a 2-1 victory over New Canaan in a rematch of last year's FCIAC and CHSGHA finals Saturday night at the Darien Ice House.

The victory gave the Wave a measure of revenge for a 4-1 loss to the Rams in December, Darien's first defeat since falling to the Stamford/Westhill/Staples co-op in the 2024 CHSGHA semifinals. The Wave, which have won nine straight, are 35-1 since the start of last season.

New Canaan lost for the first time this season and is now 13-1-1. The Rams are 34-5-1 since the start of last season, with all five losses coming in six games against Darien.

The rivals have dominated the CHSGHA tournament for the past eight seasons, with Darien winning five times and New Canaan winning three.

Both goalies were on point Saturday, with Darien junior Cam Seely collecting 20 saves against 21 shots, and New Canaan junior Macyn Callahan racking up 33 saves against 35 shots. Both goals allowed by Callahan came on power plays.

New Canaan struck quickly, with Izzy Hanna taking a pass from Lyla Ives and whipping a shot high to the far corner for a goal just 33 seconds after the opening drop.

The Rams held that lead until Haire tied it for the Wave midway through the second period.

Darien then took the lead for good with 1:50 left in the second.

Sophie Beach brought the puck up the right side into the offensive zone, but was met by two defenders and slipped it to the open middle. Gromelski raced in and sent a slapshot low past Callahan for a 2-1 lead.

Seely and the defense made the two goals stand up, shutting out New Canaan over the final 44 minutes to nail down the win.
