Lindsey Vonn's injured knee has held up over a pair of training runs at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Now it's time for the real deal.

The 41-year-old skiing legend takes to the mountain Sunday morning for her best event, the downhill, a test of nerve even in the best conditions. But Vonn's decision to compete just nine days after suffering what she called a "100%" tear of the ACL in her left knee takes the drama to another level.

Vonn completed training runs Friday and Saturday, shaving more than two seconds off her time from one to the next and posting the third-fastest time overall Saturday (USA teammate Breezy Johnson was first).

There is no margin for error in the race itself, a one-and-done proposition that can go awry in a split second. But Vonn spent a decade or so as the best in the world at the discipline, winning gold in the downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Games and taking bronze eight years later in Pyeongchang. She also has won 45 World Cup downhill races in her storied career and reached the podium five times at the World Championships.

If anyone can pull this off, it's Vonn. That makes it an early must-see event during the 2026 Winter Games. Here's everything you need to know to watch.

When does Lindsey Vonn race at the Olympics?

  • Date: Sunday, Feb. 8
  • Time: 5:30 a.m. ET

The women's downhill is scheduled to begin at 5:30 a.m. ET on Sunday and Vonn will start 13th (see full order below), so she likely won't leave the gate until close to 6 a.m. ET.

Weather issues have thrown a wrench in training runs the last few days, though, so a delay is a possibility.

For those who can't catch Vonn's run live, NBC will replay it beginning at 9:20 a.m. ET Sunday and again during the "Primetime in Milan" show following the Super Bowl.

Winter Olympics skiing venues 2026

  • Men's venue: Stelvio Ski Centre
  • Women's venue: Tofane Alpine Skiing Centre

The men's and women's alpine skiing events will be held at different venues about a five-hour drive from one another. The men will be at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio, near the Swiss border, while the women will compete at the Tofane Alpine Skiing Centre just outside Cortina d'Ampezzo.

Olimpia delle Tofane has a long history of hosting major races, including the men's downhill at the 1956 Winter Games, while the newer Stelvio course hosted the World Championships in 1985 and 2005.
