Texas football recruiting: Longhorns land commitment from in-state quarterback Ty Knutson

Texas football added a quarterback to its 2027 recruiting class on Saturday in Smithson Valley's Ty Knutson.

The 2027 Texas football recruiting class now has a quarterback. 

The Longhorns secured a commitment from in-state QB Ty Knutson on Saturday afternoon.

The 247Sports Composite rates Knutson as a 3-star prospect. He's the No. 51 quarterback in the class, the No. 91 player in the state of Texas and the No. 729 overall recruit in the cycle.

Knutson quarterbacked Smithson Valley to a state championship in 2025, completing 12 of his 21 passing attempts for 160 yards and a touchdown in the title game victory over Frisco Lone Star.

Listed at 6-foot-3, 202 pounds, Knutson chose the Longhorns over Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Houston, TCU and South Carolina, among others. 

His commitment moves the Longhorns' 2027 recruiting class to No. 9 overall and No. 4 in the SEC. Of Texas' six pledges in the cycle, four are three-star prospects, while the Longhorns also hold commitments from one four-star and one five-star recruit.
