Astros trade talks with Cardinals include Nolan Arenado despite offseason veto

The MLB trade deadline is just around the corner, and the Houston Astros are looking to improve the roster in a few different areas. Following the injury to Isaac Paredes, the Astros have begun exploring third base trade options.

According to a new report from Jon Morosi of MLB Network, the Astros have had trade talks with the St. Louis Cardinals, and Nolan Arenado has come up in trade talks.

The Astros and Cardinals being involved in trade talks isn't a surprise, as the team is looking to make deadline moves to improve the team, and the Cardinals are perceived as sellers.

But Arenado's name coming up is very interesting for Houston. In the offseason, the 10-time Gold Glover had a trade lined up to send him to Houston, but he shut down the trade, vetoing it with his no-trade clause.

Arenado stayed with the Cardinals, and now, at the deadline, the two sides have discussed a potential deal that would have Arenado join the Astros once again. Of course, any deal would have to get his approval.

He already nixed a deal with Houston in the offseason, and it doesn't seem likely he'd be open to being dealt there even with the Astros looking like contenders.

This report is worth monitoring, as the two sides could look to work out a deal for Arenado. But, for now, a deal isn't close, and the veteran third baseman is likely to stay in St. Louis through the deadline.
