Anfield side Liverpool are facing a major battle to retain one of, if not, their most talented academy player with Manchester City and Chelsea both trying to persuade the young midfielder to join them.

Josh Abe’s future at Anfield is under increased scrutiny with Premier League rivals keen to lure the 15-year-old away, highlighted by the key role that his agent – Tyler Alexander-Arnold – is set to play.

Tyler, who is the brother of former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, played a big part in the defender’s exit to Real Madrid after 21 years at the club and will lead negotiations with Abe.

The youngster recently signed with PLG – the agency run by Tyler Alexander-Arnold – and while some fans perceive him as being ‘anti-Liverpool’ due to his influence on Trent’s departure, the general consensus is that he is a Liverpool fan.

That is according to journalist Lewis Steele, who confirmed growing interest in Abe to Anfield Index, claiming that the player has already attracted attention from several top clubs across the Premier League and Europe including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid.

“If you’ve ever watched him play, you can probably see why [the demand is high]. I think he could well be the most exciting kid in the academy right now,” Steele said.

For the Under-18 side, Abe has scored five goals and provided two assists across only eight games, although the 15-year-old’s next move still remains undecided despite signals suggesting Arne Slot’s side are working increasingly hard to keep him.

Reports have suggested that Jordan Abe trained with the Liverpool first team last month and is on the brink of picking up opportunities in the senior setup.

“It’s not unheard of for clubs to just put players like this, giving them the debut in the first team, just to be like, look, you’re in now. Liverpool might put him on the bench for a few games to give him a taste,” Steele added.

The coming months are thought to be pivotal in deciding where Abe’s long-term future lies but a place in Manchester City’s star-studded academy will only boost the prospect of him succeeding in the Premier League in the coming years.

In one of the greatest youth systems in the world, the Citizens have produced the likes of Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Nico O’Reilly, and Abe undoubtedly has the aptitude to elevate him into the calibre of such talent.

Based on Abe’s social media activity, he appears to be an Arsenal fan, which could steer him towards North London in the short-term. However, with the success of City over the last decade under Pep Guardiola, a move there may serve as a much better option for his career.

In 2023, Manchester City won the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League to culminate an incredible Treble before creating more history one year later after winning a fourth successive league title – reaching a stature that many may not turn down.
