Stefon and Trevon Diggs have football in their blood — and they credit both their parents, father Aron and mom Stephanie Diggs, with their success.

Stefon is the oldest of four siblings, per ESPN: brothers Trevon and Darez and sister Porche. Their father, Aron, died in 2008 of congestive heart failure, and gave then-14-year-old Stefon a mission: Take care of the family.

"[Stefon] is like my dad, honestly," Trevon told the outlet. "He was there for me when my father passed, so he has always taken care of me. I always ask him everything, no matter what. Two o'clock in the morning, I'm asking him questions."

Stefon will compete with the New England Patriots against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8, while Trevon played cornerback for the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys.

“I think it’s cool as hell,” Stefon told the Wall Street Journal in February 2023 about being in the NFL with his brother. “It’s a small group of guys with siblings. It’s probably not as cool for me as it is for my mom. She’s got a special womb or something, she’s pushing out the athletes.”

Trevon and Stefon aren't the only athletes that Aron and Stephanie raised: Their brother Darez played for the XFL until the league shut down in 2020.

Here's everything to know about Stefon and Trevon Diggs' parents, Stephanie and Aron Diggs.

Aron and Stephanie welcomed four children during their marriage, per ESPN.

Stefon, who was born on Nov. 29, 1993, is the oldest, followed by Trevon, who was born on Sep. 20, 1998, and Mar'Sean a.k.a. Darez, who was born on Dec. 18, 1995. They also have a sister named Porche.

After Aron died in 2008, Stefon took on a father figure role for the family at just 14 years old.

"He just took us under his wing, knowing we didn't have a father figure," Darez told TwinCities.com in May 2019. "Just took on that role, basically. Guiding us, providing for us, being there when we needed him. Everything. Being a brother and a father. That's tough. That's a lot to ask of somebody that young."

Aron was largely the driving force behind Stefon and Trevon pursuing NFL careers. He encouraged his sons to build discipline and work hard from their elementary school days.

"My dad is the reason we’re so competitive. He was a basketball player, but football was his first love, and he’s the one who signed us up to play," Stefon wrote in the Players' Tribune in December 2016. "He was our first coach. His health started declining, though, and it was hard to watch. He was always on that sideline coaching, no matter what."

Trevon and Stefon said that their father would take them to practice running up and down bleachers and line drills in local parks after school every day beginning when they were 5 years old, they told Sports Illustratedin July 2022. Aron would even quiz them on formations and have them do 200 sit-ups and 200 push-ups every night before bed.

“I have to say Aron put all this together,” Stephanie told The Baltimore Sun in August 2013. “Growing up, they only knew football and school. They didn’t even know the kids in the neighborhood — it was that strict."

She added, “He was always with his sons. Always. It’s just really important for Stefon and Trevon to make sure their father gets credit.”

Aron died when they young

Aron was in and out of the hospital due to his cardiovascular health for years. When he wasn't in school or at practice or a game, Stefon served as his caretaker for several years, cooking for him, doling out his medication and cutting his hair at home, per Sports Illustrated.

While he was still waiting on the donor list for a heart transplant in January 2008, Aron died from congestive heart failure at age 39. Stefon was 14 years old and Trevon was 9 at the time.

“That s--- was f-----d up,” Stefon told Sports Illustrated of his father's death. “We was hurt. We was sad. Because he was not only like a dad, he was like a cool friend, the type to teach you a lot.”

After Aron died, Stefon became a father figure for Trevon.

“You needed a father just like I needed a father, but I knew what pops told me. I still think about it to this day. He told me ‘Take care of your little brothers,’ ” Stefon wrote in an animated letter to Trevon on NFL.com. “Even though there will always be a huge hole in our hearts, I feel like he gave me a mission, which I feel like I did the best way I know how and that is to guide, provide and protect.”

When Aron died, Stephanie was working at Amtrak. To make ends meet, she took on additional hours at Amtrak, plus shifts at Toys "R" Us and Target.

"I worked weekends so I could be home with my kids Monday through Thursday, and my mom kept them on the weekend," she told WFAA in December 2024.

She was too busy to grieve her husband, something she didn't realize until driving to work one day and hearing the song "I Remember" by Keyshia Cole.

“I just started crying. It was like, ‘Wow, who would have ever thought I would be a widow at my age?’ I was 39," she told the Dallas Morning News in May 2020. "It hit me: ‘Oh my God. Who are these kids? I haven’t even been home with them.’ It was overwhelming. They were dependent on me and only me. I’ve got to keep it together.”

She doesn't regret the long hours one bit. "I figured if I worked hard for them now, giving them a good start ... that I would be rewarded," she told WFAA. "Not rewarded monetarily, just [them] being good people and giving back and putting them in a good position."

Trevon told the Dallas Morning News that he owes most of his success to Stephanie.

“I love her with all of my heart,” Trevon said. “I can’t thank her enough. I don’t know how to repay her. There’s nothing I can do to match everything that she has done for me in the past. ... She worked hard. I’m doing it for her now. Now, it’s my turn. I’m going to work hard for her.”

Today, Stephanie is retired from Amtrak.

Stephanie shouldered a lot of responsibility after Aron's death, but Stefon says she handled all of it like a champ.

"As I went through high school and started getting attention and accolades, all of the football stuff fell into her lap," he wrote in Players' Tribune. "But she’s our Superwoman. She works as an attendant on Amtrak trains, and she still found the energy back then to help me handle the stress of the recruiting process."

Stefon said that Stephanie didn't steer him one way or the other when it came to choosing a college, instead helping him determine for himself what he wanted to do.

"She weighed the good and the bad for each college, and then helped me make the decision I wanted to make. She loves me and wanted me to make the decision that I’d be happiest with," he said.

For her part, Stephanie told WFAA that "keeping them busy" was the secret to raising two NFL stars, explaining, "I just found that sports kept them busy and safe, and I knew if I was on the road working, at least from 6 to 8 they had practice."

Stefon has a tattoo of the words "RIP DAD" on his right wrist. Trevon's tribute to his father? Signing with the Cowboys, which was Aron's favorite team.

Trevon told The Athletic in October 2018 that if Aron could see both of his sons in the NFL, “He’d be smiling, but he’d be pushing us.”
