Dana White has recently admitted something surprising about his current role at the UFC.

White, 56, has been at the helm of MMA’s biggest promotion for a quarter of a century. But over time, his influence over daily operations has changed quite a bit.

In fact, he’s admitted he hasn’t been involved in matchmaking or fighter contracts for nearly a decade now.

Hunter Campbell came on board with the UFC soon after Endeavor bought the company in 2016.

He first started as a legal consultant before moving up the ranks to become a central figure within the organisation.

Now, Campbell holds the titles of Chief Business Officer and Executive Vice President, and is widely seen as being in charge of day-to-day operations.

“Growth and strategy,” he replied when asked to define White’s responsibilities these days.

He pointed to recent events like UFC Noche at The Sphere, a visit to the White House, and plans for an event in Azerbaijan as examples of White’s focus areas.

“He is also completely obsessed with production and how the product looks and spends a great deal of time with the production crew.”

Campbell added: “I run the fight business, he runs everything else.”

White’s passion for UFC remains despite changes

Dana White’s commitment to the UFC has been questioned in recent years, with fans often pointing to his absences from press conferences and fight nights as evidence.

He skipped UFC 325 in Sydney, choosing instead to stay in Las Vegas and focus on a Zuffa Boxing event he was promoting that weekend.

Even though his involvement isn’t what it once was, White says he still has a strong connection to the organisation he helped build.

“Come see what we do in 2026 going into 2027, and you will find out that I care very much about the UFC… and Zuffa Boxing and Power Slap and Thrill One and the Dodge/[Ram] show that I just launched,” White said last month.

“Honestly, when I became the CEO of the company, my job description has changed a little bit.

“I’m taking on more… To think I don’t care about the UFC anymore. It’s kind of a weird thing.”
