SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The No. 9 Angelo State University baseball team opened a three-game homestand against No. 4 UT Tyler with a 7-2 victory Friday at Foster Field.
After the Patriots took a 2-0 lead after two innings on a pair of solo home runs, the Rams erupted with six runs in the fifth to take a 6-2 advantage. They added an insurance run in the eighth.
Chase Pendley, Austin Beck, Payton Bush, Tate Greene and Christian Garnette each drove in a run for the Rams.
The Rams out-hit the Patriots 8-3.
And despite committing four errors, ASU was able to run away with this one.
Starter Josh Reed earned the win. In five compete innings, he gave up three hits and two earned runs. He chalked up five strikeouts.
ASU improved to 3-1 on the season heading into Game 2 at 2 p.m. Saturday.
This early-season series is a rematch of the South Central Super Regional that UT Tyler won last year.
