SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — San Angelo Central High School head football coach Mark Smith has been selected as the Region 2-6A Coach of the Year by the Texas High School Coaches Association.
In his second season with the Bobcats this past fall, Smith guided Central to its first playoff win since 2020 with a 24-14 decision against El Paso Pebble Hills.
The Bobcats’ playoff run ended in an area-round playoff loss against top-ranked Southlake Carroll, the No. 10 team in the country.
Central finished 8-4 overall and 3-2 in district. It was a big turnaround from Smith’s first season when the Bobcats went 4-6 and 1-4.
The year before Smith was hired, Central went 1-9 in 2023.
