Someone’s got to set the table for Bobby.
We’re trying a new series at Royals Review, a daily mid-day question of the day to hear about your opinions on a fun or pressing question affecting the Royals or baseball in general. Chime in and drop your answers below!
The leadoff man has to set the table for the big boppers who will drive him home. It’s an important role for any team, but particularly important when you have one of the best hitters in baseball – Bobby Witt Jr. – as well as two other 100-RBI hitters in Salvador Perez and Vinnie Pasquantino.
Jonathan India served as the leadoff hitter most last year, but he had a disappointing season and lost that role when the team acquired Mike Yastrzemski. Do you trust him to rebound and bring his high walk rate to the leadoff role? What about a breakout hitter like Maikel Garcia? Or newly acquired outfielder Isaac Collins, who had a .368 OBA last year. Could you go with a rookie like Carter Jensen, known for solid walk rates in the minors? Hey, why can’t Bobby lead off? He’d get more plate appearances that way, and the more Bobby hits, the better.
Who do you think should lead off for the Royals?
