The NFL preseason begins Thursday with the Hall of Fame Game between Detroit, Los Angeles Chargers.
On some level, the NFL season is underway, as all 32 teams are in the second or third weeks of their training camp.
On another level, it gets going Thursday with the Hall of Fame Game that kicks off the exhibition season.
That all leads into the Aug. 4 opening of the regular season, starting the 18-week, 17-game run to the playoffs.
NFL Hall of Fame Game 2025 details
The exhibition season kicks off, as always, with the Hall of Fame Game. The Detroit Lions play the Los Angeles Chargers Thursday, July 31, at 6 p.m. Mountain/7 p.m. Central. The game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, will be televised on NBC and streamed on Peacock.

All 32 teams start Week 1 of the preseason starting Thursday, Aug. 7 and continue through Sunday, Aug. 10. The Dallas Cowboys play the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, Aug. 8.
First NFL game 2025
The NFL season kicks off Thursday, Sept. 4, when the Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys to kick off their title defense. Kickoff is at 6:20 p.m. Mountain/7:20 p.m. Central on NBC.
Dallas Cowboys news for the preseason
The Cowboys kick off their preseason on Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Los Angeles Rams. The game at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., kicks off at 5 p.m. Mountain/6 p.m. Central.
