Barcelona youngster Fermin Lopez has officially signed his contract extension until June 2031.

The agreement for his contract extension was finalised and announced last week by the club, and today, the La Masia graduate completed the formal signing of the deal at the club offices.

The event was attended by club president Joan Laporta and vice-president Rafa Yuste, with the midfielder also accompanied by several members of his family on a very special day in his career.

Speaking to the club media after signing his new contract, the young attacking midfielder could not hide his joy and excitement.

“Man, for me it’s a dream come true. Ever since I arrived at La Masia as a very young boy, I’ve had this dream of reaching the first team, and staying here for many years, I think I’m achieving my goal,” he said.

“I’m very happy, and I hope to stay here for many years and win many titles with Barça,” Fermin added.

When probed further about what it meant for a player like him who came through the ranks at La Masia, the youngster replied:

“As I told you, it’s a dream for every Cule like me since childhood, to play for Barça, to live for Barça. For me, it’s a dream to be here for many years. I hope it continues like this, and above all, that we bring a lot of joy to the fans and win many titles.”

The ongoing campaign has seen Fermin hit top form, having already stacked up a return of ten goals and 11 assists across all competitions.

On whether he thought he was in the best moments of his professional career, the midfielder said:

“There’s always room for improvement, but I think I’m in a very good moment, like the team, and I hope to continue like this until the end and help the team in every way.”

Touching on the importance of manager Hansi Flick for his success, Fermin added: “Hansi, the truth is he’s helped me a lot since he arrived. I’ve improved a lot with him. I’m performing well under him as a coach.

“I’m very grateful for his confidence, and also for my teammates who help me develop my game and help the team.”

Regarding the team’s performance this season, with Barcelona already winning one trophy and being in strong positions in all competitions, he noted:

“I think the team is very ready. We know that a very complicated and difficult period of the season is coming up, and I think we’re ready. We have a very good squad, and I think we’ll fight for every title and hopefully we can win them all.”

Finally, Fermin also gave his opinion on the Copa del Rey semi-final draw, which pitted Barcelona against Atletico Madrid, saying:

“A very difficult team, a formidable opponent. But if we want to win this cup, we have to play against all the teams. We hope to play a good semi-final and be able to reach the final and win it.”
