Liverpool have real injury problems right now and one of them will surely force a new transfer strategy.
Liverpool haven't had a good time of it with injuries this season. Giovanni Leoni's knee injury on debut ruled him out for the season and things never really got easier.
Alexander Isak is missing long-term. His season has been a near-nightmare as he battled for fitness only to be rewarded with a leg fracture as soon as he found momentum.
Then there's Conor Bradley. Bradley suffered an awful knee injury against Arsenal last month and it's one that keeps him out for the season at the very least.
But there's a feeling that he might actually be out longer than that. Sport Scientist Simon Brundish reports that Bradley's rehabilitation time is likely to be around a year in a brilliant analysis of the situation.
If Brundish is correct - and he typically is - then this will force Liverpool into a chance of plans.
Liverpool's right-back problem
There is no chance that Liverpool were going to look at right-back options this coming summer. It’s a situation they handled in 2025, signing Jeremie Frimpong to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Half the midfield options can play there, too, and it felt like a well-stocked position. Only, it absolutely isn’t.
Bradley will be missing for some time and Frimpong has proven unreliable with his own fitness. He’s currently injured for the third time this season.
Joe Gomez, one option there, has a difficult injury history and has been linked with an exit. Curtis Jones has also been linked with an exit as he enters the final year of his contract and he’s been an option at right-back, too.
And so with things as they are, Dominik Szoboszlai could end up being the de facto right-back for a lot of next season. That’s not something Liverpool will want.
Not only is he not a natural there but he actively doesn’t want to play as a regular right-back - something that will become an issue as Liverpool try to negotiate a new contract with him. It’s also a move that depletes the midfield further.
The only real solution seems to be for the club to consider new right-backs. Or at least, players comfortable at operating there, either from midfield or a centre-back position.
They absolutely won’t have shortlisted many such players but plans have changed. Bradley’s injury forces them to think of something new.
