TOPEKA (KSNT) – Emporia State gets the job done at home.

Five Hornets scored in double figures in the 81-78 win over Pittsburg State.

Emporia State led by four at the break, but out of the half, the Gorillas would go on a 9-2 scoring run to take a 53-50 lead with 17 minutes left. The Hornets retook the lead with 12:57 left to go, 60-57. A back-and-forth battle, the game would be tied at 72-72 with 5:18 left. The Hornets jump to a six-point lead with three to go, and the Gorillas would quickly cut back into the ESU lead.

Pitt State would miss a three-point shot to secure the win for the Hornets.

“That’s a good team, and a fun win to get at home,” ESU head coach Tom Billeter said.

ESU is back at home on Feb. 7 for a 3:30 p.m. tip-off.
