PHOENIX — It came down to the wire, but the Phoenix Suns weren’t able to take Tuesday’s momentum into Thursday as they fell to the Golden State Warriors, 101-97.

Both teams battled throughout the first half, with neither team able to go on a long offensive run to keep the other behind for long. Fouls were limited, with only five total free throw attempts in the half.
Dillon Brooks and Grayson Allen took much of the scoring load early for Phoenix, as Brooks had 15 and Allen added 13. Golden State, without Steph Curry or Jimmy Butler, held its own as Pat Spencer and Gary Payton II provided a combined 25 points.
Despite the close game, the Warriors’ 3-point shooting made the difference to close the first half — taking a 59-55 lead. They shot 15-for-47 from beyond the arc while the Suns shot 7-for-21.

As the second half started with a Golden State 7-1 run, before Allen and Royce O’Neale cut the run with a pair of 3-pointers. It was then Phoenix’s turn for its own run to open the fourth quarter, scoring 10 straight points courtesy of Collin Gillespie and Jamaree Bouyea.
The game began to get more physical as the minutes went on, with 26 total free-throw attempts compared to the only five attempts in the first half.
While Phoenix opened up a 14-point lead, Golden State responded and tied it up with a minute left, 97-97. The decisive bucket came close after as the Warriors’ Gui Santos made a running layup.

The Suns had the opportunity to make another shot, but missed a 3-pointer from Brooks. The Warriors rebounded and made another layup in the final seconds, sealingthe win for Golden State.
The Suns now look toward Saturday as they host the Philadelphia 76ers on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.
