Tetairoa McMillan won his first major award Thursday night, and if his rookie season is any indication, it won’t be his last.
The Carolina Panthers receiver took home the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year at the NFL Honors. The former Arizona Wildcats All-American led all rookies with 1,014 receiving yards. He was the only rookie to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards.
McMillan also had seven touchdown catches and 70 total receptions for the Panthers.
McMillan is the first Panther to win OROTY since Cam Newton in 2011.
“The most humbling thing is I know I couldn’t have done this by myself,” McMillan said. He went on to thank his mom and members of the Panthers organization.
McMillan was drafted eighth overall by Carolina last year after a historic career at Arizona. He is the highest offensive player drafted out of the Wildcats program.
McMillan won the award with 41 out of 50 first-place votes. He beat out Tyler Shough, TreVeyon Henderson, Jaxson Dart and Emeka Egbuka.
