It’s been widely reported this summer that the Mets are interested in adding a center fielder, ideally someone who could provide more offensive production than Tyrone Taylor. Two All-Star center fielders are on the team’s radar, but the Yankees also join them in having interest in another option. Jorge Castillo of ESPN reported that both New York teams are eyeing Minnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader.

The 31-year-old outfielder boasts a .776 OPS this season, hitting 12 home runs with 10 steals in only 263 at-bats. The offensive production is an added bonus, since Bader’s calling card is his defense. This season, he ranks in the 93rd percentile for Outs Above Average (6), and he ranks 15th in Defensive Runs Saved (three). For the Mets, he’d provide them with a high-end defender who is also a better hitter than Taylor. As for the Yankees, the team is in the market for another outfielder with Aaron Judge’s elbow injury limiting him to DH.

The Seattle Mariners remain linked in MLB trade rumors to All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suarez, even after acquiring his former teammate Josh Naylor. While Seattle would love to strike a second deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, it doesn’t seem to be the club’s No. 1 priority. Instead, per The Seattle Times, the Mariners’ front office is prioritizing adding a reliever. While the Mariners’ bullpen ranks 10th in ERA (3.76) this season, it has a 4.26 ERA (18th in MLB) this month.

The Yankees addressed their need for a third baseman and more infield depth a week before the MLB trade deadline by acquiring Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies and Amed Rosario from the Washington Nationals. Now, adding more pitching is the priority. Interestingly, trade talks could be revisited with Colorado. The Athletic‘s Brendan Kuty reported that Rockies reliever Jake Bird is a Yankees target. The 29-year-old reliever has a 4.73 ERA this season, but his 26.3 percent K-rate, thanks to two very effective breaking pitches (sweeper and curveball), makes him appealing. He’s arbitration-eligible through 2028.

The Milwaukee Brewers made a small deal on Monday, acquiring backup catcher Danny Jansen from the Tampa Bay Rays. Now the front office could move forward with its pursuit of a middle-of-the-order hitter. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Brewers are among the clubs interested in Baltimore Orioles outfielder Ryan O’Hearn. In a contract year, O’Hearn has delivered career highs in OBP (.375) and OPS (.827), and he is on pace to shatter his previous career-highs for home runs and RBI. O’Hearn would add another left-handed bat to the Brewers lineup while offering the versatility to play first base or left field.

A single month has changed a lot for the Chicago White Sox and outfielder Luis Robert Jr. At the end of June, it seemed like Chicago might have to dump him for salary relief after he posted a .584 OPS with a .185/.270/.313 triple-slash line in 249 at-bats. In July, Robert boasts a .926 OPS with a .325/.426/.500 slash line. Now, Chicago is making it known that it is willing to keep him past the MLB trade deadline and even exercise his $20 million club option for next season. If the Mets want the former All-Star outfielder, according to ESPN‘s Kiley McDaniel, it will come at a high cost. Chicago has “focused” on Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio, Mark Vientos, and Luisangel Acuna in Robert talks. Acuna and Vientos are viewed as the most “realistic” options.

The Cubs front office demonstrated its willingness to be aggressive this offseason, trading top prospect Cam Smith in a package for All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker. With the MLB trade deadline nearing, Chicago is reportedly willing to maintain that level of approach with its top prospects under the right circumstances. Patrick Mooney and Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reported that the Cubs “would consider moving” top prospect Owen Caissie for a high-end pitcher, such as MacKenzie Gore. The key will be acquiring a front-line starter with multiple years of contract control. Otherwise, Chicago is likely to keep its No. 1 prospect, as the team is also “cognizant” of the fact that it might not be able to re-sign Tucker this winter.

The Dodgers have been heavily linked in MLB rumors this month to All-Star pitchers, including closer Jhoan Duran of the Minnesota Twins. However, elite pitchers under contract for multiple seasons come at a high cost. Speaking to reporters, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he does not see a world where top prospect Dalton Rushing is traded. Echoing that, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic wrote that it is unlikely Los Angeles moves Rushing or top prospect Alex Freeland.

The Tampa Bay Rays have a long history of operating as both buyers and sellers at the MLB trade deadline. Reliever Pete Fairbanks has drawn significant interest around the league, but he is not the only one. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that the Mets and Astros are interested in All-Star hitter Brandon Lowe. Before landing on the injured list on July 22 with left ankle/foot tendinitis, Lowe posted an .800 OPS with 19 home runs and 50 RBI. The 31-year-old has primarily played second base in the last three years. Lowe, a left-handed hitter, is under contract for $10.5 million this year with an $11.5 million club option for 2026.
