Opetaia also says he welcomes an eventual clash with David Benavidez and more. Check out some quick excerpts below with the full video interview in the link at the top.

Opetaia on signing with Zuffa

“I feel like it’s a big move for boxing, there’s a lot of different things happening and I’m proud to be part of the team…I’m not really looking at the ins and outs of the promotion deal, Mick’s my manager, he’s not my promoter so we’re focusing on that and, yeah, we’re just excited to be working with Zuffa.

“We’ve got some important fights on the line. We’ll become the first undisputed including the Zuffa belt, and I want to brake history and become the first undisputed with the Zuffa belt so I’m pumped, I’m excited. It’s new chapters, man.”

On the potential of facing Benavidez down the line

“If that fight comes, let’s do it. Respecfully, I’ve got a lot of time for him, I’ve seen some of his interviews, he holds himself well, he’s fighting for the right reasons. It’s good, and that’s a massive fight, so let’s get it on.”

On the pay he’s getting from Zuffa relative to outside of their structure

“Don’t worry about the money, just worry about winning your fights. If you win your fights, the money’s going to come. Don’t worry about these quick paydays and stuff, I’m 29-0 now and I’m finally now starting to make some good coin so it’s a lot of investing time in yourself…We’ve done the hard work and now we’re here so that’s all that matters.”
