Community player ratings from Chelsea’s League Cup semifinal second leg defeat
1. MARC CUCURELLA (7.0)
Overall ratings were relatively high despite the defeat — our highest rated loss by overall average in almost exactly three years, since the 1-0 defeat away to Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 in 2022-23 — and there were only a couple individual performances that really stood out in terms of being not quite up to par. (Although it would be great if Caicedo and Palmer could get back to their best.)
Unfortunately, our par was not quite good enough to actually win, either on the day or on aggregate. Especially on aggregate. Of course, the tie was mostly lost in the first leg.
Marc Cucurella garners the top spot, perhaps as a bit of hazard pay for being tossed around like a ragdoll by Adama Traoré at the end of the previous match.
2. TREVOH CHALOBAH (6.9)
The clean sheet was ruined at the very end, with the penultimate kick of the match as we had thrown everyone forward and Arsenal countered 3-v-1, but otherwise the defensive part of the gameplan worked well, and Chalobah and Fofana continue to establish themselves as our top defensive pairing.
3. WESLEY FOFANA (6.8)
Let’s just hope that Wes can stay healthy.
