It has been over four months since Barcelona midfield ace Gavi underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee.

Having initially suffered the injury in late August, the La Masia graduate initially opted for conservative treatment, only to later opt for an intervention.

He had an arthroscopy to treat an injury to the internal meniscus of his right knee, which involved suturing the affected area to preserve the meniscus. At the time, the club spoke of an estimated recovery period of between four and five months.

Closing in on his comeback

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Gavi is finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel after his lengthy absence from the field.

Earlier today, Gavi posted a photo on his Instagram account alongside Pedri, who is also injured. Both were wearing the team training kit on one of the pitches at the Ciutat Esportiva, clear evidence that the 21-year-old is continuing to make progress in his recovery.

In this regard, Hansi Flick and his coaching staff are expecting Gavi to soon rejoin the main group.

This would be the step prior to receiving medical clearance, once he regains the same level of fitness as the rest of the squad and is ready to be available for matches.

There is no specific timetable, but according to the club’s own recovery schedule, Gavi would be due to receive clearance towards the final part of February.

Flick is not rushing his return, but the five-month recovery period referred to by the club will be completed on 23 February.

When he does make his comeback, Gavi will be handled with great care, much like the manager has done with Marc Bernal so far this term.
