With talks about a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade hitting an impasse, a new report reveals the Miami Heat’s revised plan to improve the roster before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

Last week, the Milwaukee Bucks star became the biggest story in the league when he allegedly informed the team he was ready to start the process of a divorce after 13 memorable years with the franchise. The revelation was also the moment the Heat had reportedly been waiting for.

After another first round elimination in the playoffs, rumors have swirled since the summer about a potential Antetokounmpo trade. And along with the New York Knicks, Miami has long been viewed as a top contender. Since there is a belief that the two-time MVP would like to play in South Beach. Furthermore, the Heat are reportedly “confident” about what they can offer in a deal.

However, as we get closer to Thursday’s deadline, it is starting to look more and more likely the nine-time All-Star won’t get traded. And according to Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, there is a belief that the Heat’s current trade assets aren’t good enough to complete a trade.

“That is why Giannis no longer appears to be a possibility before Thursday, and it’s also why league sources have indicated that Miami has already turned its attention to someone else,” Siegel writes.

So, who is that someone else? Well, the NBA insider claims it is Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant. Despite trading Jaren Jackson Jr. on Tuesday, the Grizz are reportedly still trying to break up their roster and move the two-time All-Star.

The market for the talented but difficult guard has been weak thus far. That could benefit Miami in a potential deal. Late last year, a report emerged that the organization had internal conversations about a Morant trade with the belief that their strong infrastructure would get him back on track to superstardom.

However, in recent weeks, reports claimed their interest had declined. With an Antetokounmpo trade now looking less likely, it seems that may have rekindled Morant discussions.
