Signing Day may have lost some of its lustre in the age of the transfer portal, but Nebraska landed a genuinely important piece with the signing of defensive lineman Dylan Berymon.
Berymon comes in at 6-foot-2, 330 pounds and carries an impressive four-star rating, ranked No. 124 nationally by 247Sports. He hails from Monroe, Louisiana, deep in SEC territory, making Nebraska’s ability to secure the top remaining unsigned player in the Top 300 no small feat.
It’s no secret that the Huskers have lacked a true space-eating presence in the middle of the defensive line. Nebraska aggressively pursued interior linemen during the transfer portal window, but none of those pursuits materialized. Instead of buying a solution, the Huskers may have found one they can build.
Development Will Be Key
The million-dollar question now becomes how quickly new defensive line coach Corey Brown can get Berymon ready to contribute. Interior defensive line is a grown-man position, and while Berymon has the physical tools to compete, there will be a learning curve as he adjusts to the speed and technique required at the college level.
The encouraging part? You can teach technique—but you can’t teach being 6-2 and 330 pounds. Berymon already brings the size and raw power Nebraska has desperately needed inside. If his development matches his measurables, the Huskers may finally have a long-term answer at nose tackle.
It remains to be seen how Berymon ultimately pans out, but this is an excellent addition to an otherwise small recruiting class. After seeing how difficult it was to land defensive line talent in the portal, Nebraska’s best bet may be to grow one rather than buy one.
If the staff can keep Berymon in Lincoln and develop him properly, this signing could pay dividends for years to come.
