PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Lewis & Clark’s offensive coordinator, Mike Machado, is stepping up to the NFL for the next few weeks with the San Francisco 49ers to work with their tight ends during the 2025 preseason.
Machado is one of seven coaches selected to be a part of the Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellows program and will attend preseason practices, games and 49ers coaches meetings.
This process takes around a month, after which he will return to Portland for Lewis & Clark’s fall camp. This opportunity gives Machado a chance to help instruct some of the best tight ends and learn NFL coaching skills firsthand.
Machado has led Lewis & Clark to become one of the top NCAA DIII offenses in just three years. At the DIII level this past season, the Pioneers were eighth in completion percentage (69.9%) and 12th in passing offense (307.2 yards per game).
Lewis & Clark also set a program record in 2023 after scoring 50 or more points in three games.
