Deadline day went crazy for Bayern loanees
Bayern Munich’s front office was busy on deadline day as the transfer window closed. Most of the moves made on the last day affected loanees. Bryan Zaragoza played for Celta Vigo midweek before moving from Spain to Italy in the only move regarding a first-team player. A smattering of second-team players moved to all around Germany and Europe including an unusual second-team move to Germany’s Bundesliga. See where everyone moved to and how European competitions finished for each loanee involved.
FC Bayern Munich
There are ten players from on loan from the first team.
Germany – Bundesliga
There are three players on loan to the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Arijon Ibrahimovic, and Armando Sieb.
Alexander Nübel – VfB Stuttgart
Nübel was on the bench for Stuttgart’s final league phase match in the Europa League. They won 3-2 and finished 11th place and go into the playoff round as the seeded team against Celtic. The first match will be in Scotland on February 19.
Nübel returned to the starting lineup on Sunday at home against SC Freiburg. He recorded just two saves — both in the second half — and kept the shutout for his team. This allowed them to need just one goal, but they left it until the 90th minute to score the late winner. Nübel’s second save came late as well to secure the 1-0 win.
Stuttgart will travel to face Holstein Kiel in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday. They will also be up north for their Bundesliga match on Saturday against St Pauli.
Arijon Ibrahimović – 1. FC Heidenheim
Ibrahimović started on the bench for Heidenheim away to Dortmund. He came in at halftime with the score 1-1 and saw a quick goal from his teammate put them up 2-1. On the day, Ibrahimović had one shot — off target — and created two chances for his teammates to shoot. He also completed 94% of his passes. Two quick goals from Guirassy spoiled Heidenheim’s day and Dortmund survived 3-2.
Heidenheim will host Hamburg on Saturday.
Armindo Sieb – 1. FSV Mainz 05
Sieb was not on the matchday squad for Mainz’ shock 2-1 win away to RB Leipzig, nor was he listed on the injury list.
Mainz will host Augsburg on Saturday.
England – Premier League
There are two players on loan to the English Premier League: João Palhinha and Jonah Kusi-Asare.
João Palhinha – Tottenham
Palhinha started for Tottenham and played the full 90 minutes in their final Champions League league phase match in Germany against Eintracht Frankfurt. He had a great match, maybe the best of his loan spell. He completed the most passes (102) and won the most duals (nine) of anyone on the pitch. He also had one shot on goal and played 21 passes into the final third to try to start the attack. Palhinha picked up a yellow in the dying minutes as he helped Spurs win 2-0. The win secured fourth place in the Champions League and earned them a bye to the Round of 16.
Spurs returned home to host Manchester City in league play on Sunday. Palhinha started and played 90 minutes again, but slotted back to the right side of a back three. He had one shot again — blocked from the spot. Most of his contributions were in the defense this match. He had six tackles, one blocked shot, five clearances, and five recoveries. Despite being down 2-0 at halftime, Spurs came back in the second half to earn a 2-2 home draw.
Tottenham will host Manchester United on Saturday.

Kusi-Asare was on the bench for Fulham’s 3-2 loss away to Manchester United but did not make an appearance.

Southampton will host Watford on Saturday.
Italy – Serie A
Bryan Zaragoza is the only player on loan to Italy’s Serie A.
Bryan Zaragoza – AS Roma
Zaragoza was still on the roster for Celta Vigo’s Europa League match away to FK Crvena Zvezda on Thursday. He started on the bench but came onto the pitch in the 69th minute for his last appearance. He did not have a shot nor did he create a chance for his teammates to shoot. He also only completed two shots in eight touches. Both teams exchanged late goals to split the points. This was enough to help his team finish 16th place.
In a surprise move on Sunday, Bayern announced that Zaragoza was recalled from Celta Vigo and sent immediately on loan to AS Roma for the rest of the season. Unsurprisingly, he was not on the matchday squad for Monday’s 1-0 road loss against Udinese. Zaragoza joins a Roma side who currently sits in fifth place in Serie A, fighting for a Champions League spot next season. They also finished eighth in the Europa League and have earned a bye to the Round of 16.
Roma will not be in action until Monday, February 9.

Lovro Zvonarek is the only player on loan from the first team to the Swiss Super League.
Lovro Zvonarek – Grasshopper

There are four players on loan from the second team in the 2. Bundesliga: Noel Aseko, Javier Fernandez, Grayson Dettoni, and Paul Scholl.
Noel Aseko – Hannover 96
Aseko started for Hannover 96 on the road against Magdeburg. He had a shot blocked early. He did not create any chances for his teammates to shoot, but he had one mistake that led to Magdeburg’s lone goal. Hannover will host Holstein Kiel on Sunday.
Javier Fernandez – 1. FC Nürnberg
The young Spaniard has moved to northern Bavaria to join Buchman at 1. FC Nürnberg for the rest of this season. Fernandez joined Bayern’s youth system in 2023. He has two goals in 13 matches with Bayern II. This could be a big step for the 19 year old midfielder.

Grayson Dettoni – SV Darmstadt 98
For the second year in a row, Dettoni has gone on loan in the winter transfer window. The American defender was with Grasshopper in Switzerland last Spring and will join SV Darmstadt 98 until Summer. Darmstadt is currently in third place and is fighting for promotion.
Darmstadt will host Kaiserslautern on Saturday.
Paul Scholl – Karlsruher SC
Scholl started for KSC and played the full 90 minutes away to Eintracht Braunschweig. He was really only able to contribute on the defensive side of the ball. He had four tackles, three clearances, five interceptions, and one recovery. This helped his team hold Braunschweig to just one goal. Unfortunately Karlsruhe could not find a goal and they fell 1-0 on the road.
KSC will host Fortuna Düsseldorf on Sunday.

Milan Futuro will host Ciserano Bergamo on Sunday.
Switzerland – Super League
Johnathan Asp Jensen is the only player from the second league on loan to the Swiss Super League.
Johnathan Asp Jensen – Grasshopper
