Michigan State's 15th-ranked gymnastics team defeated 10th-ranked Michigan on Sunday in Ann Arbor by a 10th of point, 197.525 to 197.425.

The Spartans set new season highs in every event and junior MaKayla Tucker won the all-around title with a career-best score of 39.500.

“We’re back,” MSU gymnastics coach Mike Rowe said. “We had some struggles at the beginning of the season. And now we’re starting to settle in. Some of our lineup is starting to settle.

“This week, our buzz words have been ‘undeniable’ and ‘grit.’ … And I think we did it. We carried it through from one event to the next. I’m so proud of them.”

MSU, which moved up to No. 11 in the latest national rankings after the win, is 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the Big Ten, including a narrow home loss to UCLA a week earlier.

The Spartans compete at No. 14 Penn State this Sunday, before hosting Maryland (Feb. 15) and Ohio State (Feb. 21) on consecutive weekends at Jenison Field House. All three upcoming matches can also be streamed on B1G-Plus.
