Liverpool are ready to sanction an exit today - for the right offer. Even if he's their last man standing.

It’s transfer deadline day and Liverpool are pushing to make some things happen. However, it doesn’t appear that any of those things will fill their right-back slot for the rest of the season.

The Reds are down both Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong right now. Bradley’s gone for the season, in fact, while Frimpong will miss a few weeks here.

Now, most clubs would act and find someone to offer cover there. Liverpool did do that, admittedly, but chose to pursue Lutsharel Geertruida, a player currently on loan at Sunderland from RB Leipzig.

That meant negotiating with two clubs right as the deadline was there. It didn’t work out well and it appears Liverpool have no backup option.

As a result, no right-back is on the way. But bizarrely, one might be leaving.

Calvin Ramsay could leave

James Pearce reports in the Athletic's transfer news blog that Calvin Ramsay could leave today on loan. Liverpool are willing to sign off on his exit if the right deal arrives.

And that's a massive surprise, admittedly. Liverpool have no senior right-backs available and Ramsay is essentially the last-man standing as a natural in the role.

Arne Slot seems incredibly reluctant to use him, however, despite an impressive showing in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. But with no one else available, the boss tends to go with a midfielder at right-back instead.

So it's not a massive surprise that Liverpool would accept a loan but then it is very strange that they'd limit themselves like this. Why not just use Ramsay? A natural right-back at a time when the squad is struggling for numbers.

But that's been a concern for the entire Slot reign, really. A small squad with limited options eventually breaking. This one just feels like a needless risk.
