Yankees Facing Giancarlo Stanton Decision After Aaron Judge News

The New York Yankees must recalibrate as they try to get back in first place.

Yankees Facing Giancarlo Stanton Decision After Aaron Judge News originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

It's no secret that Aaron Judge is the heart and soul of the New York Yankees, and it would be a devastating loss if he missed a significant amount of time. The 33-year-old is having yet another MVP-caliber season, as he leads baseball with a .342 batting average and a 1.160 OPS over 103 games. He's also tied for second with 37 homers and is second with 85 RBI.

The last time Judge had a major injury was in 2023, when he tore a ligament in his right big toe after crashing into the Dodger Stadium outfield fence. The superstar missed 42 games, and the Yankees missed the playoffs after finishing 82-80.

Judge now has a flexor strain in his right elbow, according to MLB. The former Rookie of the Year will be placed on the IL.

In reaction to this news, New York will consider a change involving Giancarlo Stanton, via The Athletic's Chris Kirschner.

"Aaron Boone said Giancarlo Stanton will start getting outfield reps to see if it might be an option for him," he reported.

Stanton hasn't played in the outfield since 2023. The slugger has been exclusively a designated hitter since last season, while Judge switched from center field to right this year after Juan Soto's departure.

The Yankees have now lost three straight games after Saturday's 9-4 defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies. They're six games behind the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the AL East, but are one game ahead of the Seattle Mariners for the first Wild Card spot.

Southpaw pitcher Carlos Rodon (10-7, 3.10 ERA) will start for New York against Philadelphia right-hander Zack Wheeler (9-3, 2.39 ERA) on Sunday.
