FC Bayern got a gem in Harry Kane.
Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich was always going to be judged through the lens of goals, trophies, and legacy. But beneath the headlines and scorelines, Kane’s adaptation to life in Germany has been just as important — and, by his own admission, far more enjoyable than he initially imagined.
“Until you experience something, it’s hard to really judge what it’s actually going to be like. I think there’s a perception that German people are maybe a bit grumpy and a bit cold. But they’ve got a great sense of humor and are really down-to-earth people who love hard work and humbleness,” Kane told The Athletic (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kane hasn’t just slotted into Bayern’s footballing structure, he has aligned seamlessly with the culture around it. In Munich, football is not background noise — it is the connective tissue of everyday life, and Kane has felt that immediately.
“Everyone pretty much supports Bayern Munich here [in Munich]. Everyone talks about football, loves football. So even when I’m out and about or picking the kids up from school, everyone’s giving compliments when I’m scoring goals. It’s like one big community,” said Kane.
For a player arriving with global expectations and personal pressure, feeling embraced off the pitch often translates into freedom on it. Kane’s comfort in Munich has been reflected in his performances — confident, clinical, and increasingly authoritative.
Even the cultural traditions that might seem unfamiliar at first have been welcomed rather than resisted.
“They’re actually really comfortable. When I first saw them, I thought it was going to be horrible (to wear), but they’re more comfortable than they look. It’s a big tradition here. I’ve got one that I got through the club, but my wife has got her dirndls and is fully going for it,” Kane stated.
It is a small detail, but an important one. Kane hasn’t merely moved clubs; he’s embraced a new way of life. In doing so, he’s reinforced why Bayern’s gamble never felt like one at all.
