SC Freiburg striker Junior Adamu is set to join Celtic before the transfer deadline today, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg. Celtic manager Martin O’Neill wants to strengthen the Hoops’ attack to boost their chances of retaining the Scottish Premiership title. The Bhoys have reached a verbal agreement with Freiburg, and Adamu is already in Glasgow to seal his loan move to the Parkhead club.

The 24-year-old was on his way to the United Kingdom yesterday for his medical ahead of joining Celtic having waited for the green light. All has now been sorted out, and he could be announced in the coming hours. Adamu will become the Hoops’ third loan signing of the winter transfer window after Bournemouth defender Julian Araujo and Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tomas Cvancara were recruited in temporary deals weeks ago.

Celtic are also in advanced talks with Ligue 2 club Lorient to sign Norwegian forward Joel Mvuka. They will hope to get the deal across the line before the 7pm deadline today, and O’Neill will fancy his chances of pipping league leaders Hearts to the title if those two deals go through. The Hoops are six points behind Hearts after 24 games and will have to keep mounting pressure on them heading into the final 14 league matches.
