The final day of the winter transfer window looks set to be busy for Liverpool.

Although Arne Slot had shut down talk of the Reds making any sort of transfers before deadline day, Jeremie Frimpong's recent injury seems to have changed things.

Granted, the Dutchman is only going to be out of action for few weeks but if Liverpool want to try and win the Champions League, they'll need every bit of help that they can get.

Lutsharel Geertruida seems to be the most likely candidate to make the switch before deadline day but, it seems like a new target has emerged.

One thing that has become increasingly common at Liverpool since Slot's arrival is that the Anfield outfit look to sign players who can play in more than one position.

Joe Gomez and Dominik Szoboszlai are arguably two of the Reds' most important players in this regard with both of them being able to play in multiple positions across the pitch.

And, now that their depth is wearing thin, it's clearer than ever why Slot wants as many versatile players among his ranks as possible.

Indeed, Geertruida easily ticks this box but, as per a fresh update from journalist Sacha Tavolieri, it seems like the Reds could recruit yet another versatile player before deadline day.

"Liverpool have a concrete interest in Lutsharel Geertruida. Case is being pushed internally by Arne Slot, who knows the qualities of his compatriot well," he wrote via his personal X account.

"Roland Sallai, of Galatasaray, represents another alternative if Sunderland were to block the deal."

Roland Sallai is edging closer to becoming a world class player at Galatasaray

At the moment, the vast majority of Liverpool's team is made of Hungarians and Dutchmen.

As mentioned, Szoboszlai is one of the Reds' most important players and, even though he hasn't been at his best this season, Virgil van Dijk is still Slot's best defender.

And, if a move for Roland Sallai does come to fruition, Liverpool's trend of signing Hungarians will continue.

Many fans won't have heard all that much about the Hungarian but, the fact that his current manager Okan Buruk has admitted that he's close to becoming a "world star" shows how good he actually is.

The 2025-26 season has seen Sallai move into a more defensive role but, despite this, he can be played almost anywhere apart from centre-back.

He may be 28 years old, which is a tad older than Liverpool would ideally want, but his experience and ability to create something from nothing is something that the club could really do with, especially if they want to do well in the Champions League and the FA Cup.
