Alessandro Bastoni underlined the importance of Inter Milan’s 2-0 win away to Cremonese, warning that these types of fixtures can easily become complicated.

Speaking to Sky Sport after the final whistle, via FCInterNews, the Inter defender praised his team’s focus and mentality.

“We had to stay concentrated, united and solid, because we know how difficult it is to play against teams that are fighting for points. I’m satisfied with the attitude we showed during the match.”

Bastoni admitted Inter found things tougher after the break.

With a two-goal advantage, the Nerazzurri took their foot off the accelerator slightly and Cremonese were able to grow into the game.

“Yes, maybe we could have managed it better. When you play so many matches the energy is not always at 100%. With Djuric they won many aerial duels and they hit the post with Zerbin. But again, it’s never easy to go away from home and not concede goals. I’m satisfied.”

Despite this, Inter kept the clean sheet and secured the three points.

The Italy international also stressed how crucial these kinds of wins can be in the bigger picture.

The win sends Inter eight points clear at the top of Serie A, pending rivals Milan’s game against Bologna on Tuesday.

“Looking at the table, winning these matches that hide so many pitfalls is extremely important. You can’t always be at your best, but with the coach’s rotations we are putting in great performances.”

He concluded by looking ahead to tougher challenges.

One of Cristian Chivu’s major difficulties this season has been winning matches against direct rivals.

“In the big head-to-head games we still need a few details, but we will get there. If we keep winning the matches we are supposed to win like this, then it’s good.”
