EFL Championship: Issa Kabore is reborn!

Burkina Faso international Issa Kabore is enjoying a resurgence in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football. The right-back delivered his fourth assist in Wrexham’s 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Wrexham’s narrow 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in the 30th round of the EFL Championship was due in large part to Issa Kabore. Turning in a standout performance and setting up the only goal for his teammate Sam Smith, the Burkinabe defender is clearly regaining both form and confidence. This marks Kabore’s fourth assist since arriving on loan from Manchester City in September 2025.

After suffering a thigh injury in mid-November 2025, the 24-year-old missed several matches for his club. A key player for the Burkina Faso national team, he was called up for the AFCON in Morocco even though he wasn’t fully fit. He played just 19 minutes in the Stallions’ 3-0 defeat to the Ivory Coast Elephants in the round of 16.

Back at club level, Kabore has now started four consecutive matches, capping the latest with an assist. While his recent loan spells at Benfica Lisbon and Bremen were less successful, Issa Kabore has found his place and a key role, thriving on the pitch since joining Wrexham.
