Swansea City are close to signing Finland midfielder Leo Walta from Swedish club Sirius.

Walta has been permission to travel to Wales for a medical and should complete a move to Swansea before Monday's transfer deadline.

The 22-year-old, who was first linked with the Swans last summer, managed an impressive tally of 16 goals in 30 appearances in the 2025 Swedish top-flight season having netted seven times in 2024.

Head coach Vitor Matos has made an attacking midfield player his top priority in the final stages of the mid-season window, though Swansea could also bring in a centre-back.

Swansea striker Bobby Wales, meanwhile, is poised to join League One Huddersfield Town on loan for the rest of the season.

Walta won the first of his 10 senior Finland caps in 2024 having represented his country at various age-grade levels.

He began his club career in his homeland, at HJK Helsinki, before a spell in Norway with Nordsjaelland.

Walta had loan spells with Danish club HB Koge and Mjallby in Sweden before a permanent move to Sirius in 2024.

Swansea are willing to let Wales depart in the hope that the former Kilmarnock youngster will get game time with Liam Manning's Terriers, who are sixth in the third tier.

Wales was not involved as Swansea won at Watford on Saturday, with Zan Vipotnik leading the line and Liam Cullen beginning on the bench.

Adam Idah is due to return from injury in March while Melker Widell - who missed the Watford trip with what Swansea said was a "knock" - has been deployed up front by Matos.
