Burkina Faso: 5 sports academies to be built in 2026
During his traditional state of the nation address, the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso announced on January 30, 2026, the construction of five (05) sports academies across the country.
Five sports academies will be established in Burkina Faso. This ambitious sports development project is set to begin in 2026, according to the head of the Burkinabè government. Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo made the announcement on January 30, 2026, before the National Assembly during his speech on the state of the nation.
This initiative continues a dynamic approach launched by the Burkinabè government since Captain Ibrahim Traoré came to power. Reviewing the achievements of 2025, the Prime Minister highlighted the renovation and subsequent approval of the Stade du 4 Août, the ongoing construction (75% complete) of the new 15,000-seat stadium in Bobo-Dioulasso, the hosting of the 37th Tour du Faso, and more.
This project is driven by the Presidential Initiative for the Emergence and Promotion of Sporting Excellence (IP-RELIS). One of its main objectives is to equip each region of the country with a modern sports complex for training young talent. The first phase was launched in May 2025 in Kaya, a city located 100 kilometers northeast of the capital, Ouagadougou.
