Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has plenty of weapons at his disposal on both sides of the ball entering the 2025 season.

While there is a lot of hype around quarterback Arch Manning, a recent article by PFF focused on a Texas star on the other side of the ball.

Edge rusher Colin Simmons was named the most valuable edge defender in college football. As a true freshman last season, Simmons recorded 48 total tackles, 14 TFLs, nine sacks and one interception.

He was the No. 15 overall recruit and No. 2 edge rusher in the Rivals Industry Rankings for the 2024 class.

Simmons left his mark on the program in his first season, leading the team in sacks and taking home the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, which goes to the country's best true freshman.

Year two for Simmons with the Longhorns starts with a true road test for Texas. The program travels to Columbus to face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the season opener.

Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer shared that Jeremiah Smith is the reason he thinks the Buckeyes have the advantage in the matchup. The two powerhouses last met in the College Football Playoff semifinal, with Ohio State knocking out Texas 28-14.

Former Texas running back Bijan Robinson recently had a revelation for fans. He revealed that people have been pronouncing his name incorrectly. He stated that his name is pronounced (Bi-jahn), as opposed to (BEE-jahn). Robinson enters his third NFL season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2025.

With a player of Simmons' talent on defense, the Longhorns are in good hands.
