Justin Rose has produced one of the standout performances of the PGA Tour season at Torrey Pines.

In the first three rounds at the Farmers Insurance Open, the Englishman has separated himself from the field with precise golf that has rewritten the tournament record book.

As Rose built a commanding six-shot lead ahead of the final day, attention quickly turned to just how comfortable he has looked on a demanding layout.

Former PGA Tour winner Smylie Kaufman was among those watching closely, and his reaction summed up the feeling shared by many.

Smylie Kaufman reacts to Justin Rose’s swing and routine

Kaufman did not hide his admiration for what he has been seeing from Rose this week.

“I’m obsessed with the way Rosey is swinging the golf club,” Kaufman said.

“I’ve been walking around the house doing his pre-shot routine, thinking I have this game figured out.”

The comment was delivered with humor, but it reflected a genuine appreciation for Rose’s rhythm and control.

Throughout the tournament, Rose’s tempo and decision-making have stood out, particularly under pressure, as he continues to find fairways and greens with remarkable consistency.

For Kaufman, the appeal is not just the results but the simplicity of how Rose is going about his work.

There has been little sign of forcing the issue, with Rose trusting his process and letting the scores take care of themselves.

Justin Rose breaks scoring records at Torrey Pines

Rose’s performance has already secured a place in the tournament’s history.

After rounds of 62, 65, and 68, he has broken both the 36-hole and 54-hole scoring records at Torrey Pines.

The previous 36-hole mark stood at 15 under par, which Rose eclipsed by reaching 17 under.

He then pushed past the 54-hole record of 18 under, extending it to 21 under and opening up a six-shot lead heading into the final round.

There is still more on the line. The 72-hole tournament record is 21 under par, a mark Rose himself set when he won the event in 2019.

A final-round score of just one under par would see him break that record outright.

Whether or not he adds another number to the record book, Rose’s week at Torrey Pines has been a reminder of his enduring quality.

It is little surprise that fellow professionals like Kaufman have been watching closely, and perhaps even borrowing a pre-shot routine or two along the way.
