Real Madrid worried over captain’s situation amid continued lack of minutes

Dani Carvajal returned to Real Madrid’s matchday squad during the team’s clash against Real Betis early in January and that marked the end of his two and a half month period out through injury.

After all, he had suffered a blow to his knee that necessitated arthroscopic intervention at the end of October, and it was expected that the player would slowly return to the dynamics soon.

Surprisingly, however, the defender has only played 27 minutes in close to three months since his injury and has not seen much prominence despite being in the squad for a month.

Signs of worry

As relayed byMundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are beginning to get worried over the situation of Dani Carvajal and his prolonged absence which has made them suffer at right-back.

Since returning against Real Betis, he made no appearances for the club in three straight games and only came off the bench for 13 minutes against Albacete.

He then played no part against Levante before playing 14 minutes in the 6-1 win over Monaco once more.

In the two games since, Carvajal has again had no involvement and the management are understandably worried by the player’s delayed return to fitness.

After all, even Trent Alexander-Arnold has been unavailable for most of the same period, but even that situation did not create any hurry in his return.

The upcoming game against Rayo Vallecano later today is seen as a massive chance for Real Madrid to push for his return and for the captain to see some continuity once more. He may not start, but a prominent role off the bench is not ruled out.

After all, Real Madrid need their captain, his experience and leadership now more than ever.
