SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AUGUSTANA) –Owen Bohn recorded a pair of goals while Josh Kotai turned aside 31 shots as Augustana men’s hockey earned a 4-1 victory over Lake Superior State to complete the weekend sweep.
Augustana opened the scoring early and built a two-goal cushion before answering a Laker response in the second period. The Vikings closed out the contest with a late empty-net goal to secure the win.
The Vikings struck first at 2:46 of the opening period when Bohn finished an even-strength chance, set up by Colton Friesen. Augustana limited Lake Superior State’s opportunities through the remainder of the frame, taking a 1-0 advantage into the first intermission.
Augustana doubled its lead midway through the second period as Easton Young found the back of the net at 7:41, with Carter Theissen and Brett Meerman earning assists. Lake Superior State responded at 12:32 to cut the deficit to one, but the Vikings answered late in the period. Jacob Jastrzebski restored the two-goal lead at 18:37, batting a feed from Owen Baumgartner and Hayden Hennen to make it 3-1 heading into the break.
The Lakers pressed in the third period, including a power-play opportunity, but Kotai and the Viking defense held firm. With Lake Superior State skating with an extra attacker, Bohn sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 17:33 for his second tally of the night.
Kotai earned the win in net for Augustana, stopping 31 of 32 shots, as the Vikings were outshot 32-27 on the night.
