PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) – The winter high school sports postseason is officially underway as IHSA boys wrestling regionals were held around Illinois on Saturday.

2A powerhouse Washington won their tournament at Metamora with eight separate wrestlers winning weight class titles. In 1A, Olympia cruised to a regional title at Dee-Mack with seven weight class titles.

In girls basketball, 3A No. 1 Washington raced out to a 20-point win over No. 8 Peoria Notre Dame. Mazzy O’Brien led with 19 points and Avery Tibbs added another 19 for the Panthers.

Central Catholic was honored for becoming just the 15th program in IHSA girls basketball history for reaching the 1,000-win threshold. After the ceremony, they beat Sullivan 68-56.

In boys hoops, Normal West held a day-long shootout. The Wildcats beat Washington and East Peoria defeated Normal Community in a couple of Big 12 vs. Mid-Illini contests.

Peoria High beat Moline and Central Catholic took down state power Staunton in overtime after erasing a 17-point halftime defecit.

In non-conference action, Morton beat Streator and Metamora took down Springfield.

At the state championships for competitive dance, Morton finished 7th in 1A and Washington clocked in an 8th-place finish.

Morton’s Weston Sadler finished as runner-up at the IHSA bowling state championships. His Potter team finished 5th overall.
