For those who didn’t get to witness Michael Jordan dominate the NBA in real time, "The Last Dance" was the next best thing. The docuseries pulled back the curtain on the Chicago Bulls' dynasty, offering an up-close look at MJ’s relentless mindset, behind-the-scenes drama and what made him the legend athletes still look up to today.
It became an instant hit on Netflix, praised for its raw honesty and iconic moments. But surprisingly, the man at the center of it all wasn’t feeling quite as confident before it dropped. According to his son, Jeffrey Jordan, the GOAT was actually nervous.
“I loved 'The Last Dance,' the timing could not have been better," Jeffrey Jordan said in an interview with Horace Grant Jr. on Instagram. "I think everybody was waiting on it. My dad was a little nervous about it; he did not know how people were going to react. I was like ‘Dad they are going to love you anyway. Everyone recognizes you wanted to win and you wanted to be the best.'”
Grant has a special relationship with the Chicago Bulls as his father, Horace Grant, played for the organization for eight seasons from 1987-94, which included the first three of MJ's six NBA championships.
"The Last Dance" didn’t just captivate basketball fans, it sparked motivation across the entire sports world. Jordan’s relentless drive, shown in the documentary, resonated deeply with elite athletes who saw competition as a mindset, not just a game.
Even outside the NBA, players in other sports cited his example of leadership and toughness as a blueprint for success. The series also reintroduced Jordan as a cultural icon, particularly in hip-hop, with artists like Future, Lil Durk and Nicki Minaj dropping references that reflect his enduring legacy and work ethic.
By blending behind-the-scenes grit with off‑court charisma, "The Last Dance" became a masterclass in showing an iconic athlete's enduring greatness.
